The International Transport Forum published a background paper on the impact of the Red Sea crisis on shipping, supply chains and the environment. The paper also details policy considerations and calls for better cooperation between national authorities to ensure connectivity and transparency of surcharges.

MAKE COUNTEMISSIONS EU FIT AND WORK FOR TRANSPORT!
CLECAT, ACEA (European Automobile Manufacturers Association), ECG (The Association of European Vehicle Logistics) and ESC (European Shippers’ Council), representing transport operators, users of freight transport services and truck, bus, van and passenger car manufacturers welcome the European Commission proposal aimed at establishing a common European framework for calculating GHG emissions of transport operations in the freight and passenger transport sector, the so-called CountEmissions EU initiative.

EC PRESENTS ACTION PLAN TO TACKLE LABOUR AND SKILLS SHORTAGES
On 20 March the European Commission presented an action plan to tackle labour and skills shortages proposing to work together with Member States and social partners to address these issues over the coming months and years. The action plan is part of the EU’s strategy to boost its competitiveness and enhance its economic and social resilience.

EC MAKES €1BN AVAILABLE FOR RECHARGING AND REFUELLING POINTS UNDER CEF
The European Commission has launched a call for proposals under the Connecting Europe Facility – Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF). €1 billion is available to support the deployment of alternative fuels supply infrastructure for road, maritime, inland waterway and air transport along TEN-T, the trans-European transport network:

ECTA UNVEILS STUDY ON FINANCING ZERO-EMISSION TRUCKS
On 31 March, the European Clean Trucking Alliance – ECTA, of which CLECAT is a member – published an in-depth analysis of the challenges for financing the transition towards zero-emission trucks (ZETs) faced by the logistics industry, considering the high upfront costs of vehicles and the corresponding charging/refuelling infrastructure.
