GSF-MDS QUATERLY REVIEW: LACK OF COMPETITION IN CONTAINER SHIPPING
The Global Shippers Forum (GSF) and MDS Transmodal published on 28 June the latest edition of the Container Shipping Market Quarterly Review for Q1 2022 with an accompanying press release. The main finding of this report highlights that concentration in global liner shipping market have been miscalculated and underestimated by authorities.

EU INVESTS €5.4 BILLION IN SUSTAINABLE, SAFE, AND EFFICIENT TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE
On 29 June, the European Commission selected 135 transport infrastructure projects for EU grants, from 399 project proposals submitted under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), the EU's funding instrument for strategic investment in transport infrastructure. The funding will support projects across all EU Member States along the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).

CLECAT WELCOMES COUNCIL AGREEMENT ON ETS
On 29 June, the Environment Council adopted the Council position on the revision of the EU Emission Trading System (ETS). . Member States supported the inclusion of emissions from maritime transport into the main ETS, the creation of a separate ETS for road transport emissions, and the 100% CO2 emission reduction target by 2035 for new vans.

ICS2 WORKSHOP – LAST CHANCE TO REGISTER
On 6 July, CLECAT & DG TAXUD are organising a workshop to support freight forwarders to prepare for the new EU customs advance cargo information system. The workshop will be held in Brussels, but participants can join online. So far more than 200 participants have registered.

ICCT-RAP STUDY ON THE ELECTRIFICATION OF DELIVERY VEHICLES
On 16 June, the European Clean Trucking Alliance released a report conducted by research institutes Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP) and the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) on the state of electrification of delivery vehicles in Europe. The study shows that electric trucks can reach price parity already today with diesel trucks but will need well-designed purchase incentives.

EP ADOPTS REVISED CO2 STANDARDS FOR CARS AND VANS
The European Parliament adopted in Plenary session on 8 June its position on the revision of the Regulation on CO2 standards for new light duty vehicles. MEPs largely support the ENVI report adopted on 11 May, endorsing the Commission proposal to reach 100% new sales of zero-emission cars and vans by 2035.

EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT ADOPTS ETS REVISION
On 22nd June, the European Parliament adopted in Plenary session with a large majority its amendments to the revision of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS). MEPs voted for a second time on this file, after failing to reach a majority in a first vote on 8 June. MEPs supported the inclusion of emissions from maritime transport into the main ETS and the creation of a separate ETS for road transport emissions.

EC APPROVES ITALIAN SUPPORT MEASURES FOR RAIL FREIGHT
In June, the European Commission approved three Italian aid measures supporting rail freight. These include a €55 million scheme to encourage freight transport to shift from road to rail, a €130 million scheme to support both the rail freight and rail commercial passenger sectors in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, as well as a €374 million support to compensate rail freight transport companies for the damage suffered during the period between 12 March and 31 May 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

2022 REPORT ON RAILWAY SAFETY AND INTEROPERABILITY
The European Union Agency for Railways (ERA) has published the 2022 Report on Railway Safety and Interoperability in the EU. The biennial report highlights progress with railway safety and interoperability in the EU and allows an in-depth understanding of the European railways situation and its evolution over time. The data contained in the report can be used to identify areas for improvement towards reaching a more efficient and effective railway system: the Single European Railway Area.
