COMMISSION DECIDES NOT TO EXTEND ANTITRUST BLOCK EXEMPTION FOR LINER SHIPPING CONSORTIA
The European Commission has decided not to extend the EU legal framework which exempts liner shipping consortia from EU antitrust rules (Consortia Block Exemption Regulation or ‘CBER'). The Commission has concluded that the CBER no longer promotes competition in the shipping sector and therefore it will let it expire on 25 April 2024.

EP FORMALLY APPROVES AGREEMENT ON ITS DIRECTIVE

REGISTRATION OPEN: LOGISTICS FOR EUROPE 2023
On 16 November, CLECAT and ESC will host the Logistics for Europe 2023 event, entitled ‘’Partnering Compliance and Competitiveness in the EU - Is it Possible?’’ The event aims to facilitate a constructive dialogue among industry representatives from freight forwarding, customs agents, shippers, and European policymakers to address the challenges faced by the European industry.

EC CONFIRMS COMBINED TRANSPORT ADOPTION IN NOVEMBER
During the ENVI hearing in Strasbourg on 3 October, to approve Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič’s new role in leading the Commission’s work on the European Green Deal, Mr Šefčovič confirmed that adoption of the revision of the Combined Transport Directive would be published in November 2023.

NEW STAGE OF SANCTIONS PACKAGE AGAINST RUSSIA KICKS IN
The first stage of the import ban on iron and steel products originating in Russia but produced in third countries, will come into effect on 30 September as agreed in the Commission’s eleventh package of economic and individual restrictive measures to strengthen existing EU sanctions against Russia and prevent their circumvention adopted on 23 June.
