GREEN TRUCK PARKING DEFINITION

Last week, ESPORG publicly announced the proposal for a definition and methodology for the Green Truck Parking concept. Elaborated in the framework of the E-Parking Task force – of which CLECAT is a member – the definition includes advance sustainable and environmentally responsible practices to the operation of truck parking areas, helping to reduce the environmental footprint of road freight transport operations.

The concept builds on the existing EU SSTPA standard by defining sustainable practices and a set of KPIs covering several areas including operations and management, environment, impact on local communities and stakeholders as well as land use and infrastructure. The proposal is also accompanied by guidelines on the calculation and reporting of GHG emissions from operating truck parking areas.

The E-Parking Task Force and DEKRA will continue working on the Green Parking concept by developing a template for a voluntary green parking standard by the end of the year to be tested by certified truck parking operators as of 2025.
