COMMISSIONER HEARINGS SCHEDULED

This week, the European Parliament released the schedule for the hearings of Commissioners-designate, which are set to take place in early November. These hearings mark a critical step in confirming the new European Commission’s leadership team, and CLECAT is particularly looking forward to discussions on portfolios that are highly relevant to the logistics and freight forwarding industry.

Among the most anticipated hearings is that of Maroš Šefčovič, the Commissioner-designate for Trade and Economic Security; Interinstitutional Relations and Transparency, who will present his vision on Monday, 4 November (14:30 – 17:30) and Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the designated Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, will appear before MEPs on Monday, 4 November (18:30 – 21:30).

Also of great significance is Teresa Ribera Rodríguez, who will serve as Executive Vice-President for Clean, Just, and Competitive Transition. Ms. Ribera Rodríguez will be heard by Parliament on 12 November (18:30 – 21:30). Her portfolio, which combines economic competitiveness with the clean energy transition, will be crucial in shaping policies that aim to balance environmental objectives with the competitiveness of European industries.

The hearings will also include Wopke Hoekstra, the Commissioner-designate for Climate, Net Zero, and Green Growth, scheduled for Thursday, 7 November (09:00 – 12:00). Mr. Hoekstra's hearing is expected to be relevant with regards to the implementation of transport-related climate legislation as well as net-zero infrastructure and technologies linked to the decarbonisation of the sector.

The written questionnaires and responses from the Commissioners-designate are already being circulated, with final responses due by 22 October. CLECAT is closely monitoring these hearings. The European Parliament Plenary vote on the College of Commissioners will take place in Strasbourg during the last week of November with the earliest possible entry into force of the new Commission on 1 December.
