CLECAT SIGNS MANIFESTO FOR INTERMODAL, LOW-CARBON, EFFICIENT AND RESILIENT FREIGHT TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS

Last week, the United Nations Global Supply Chain forum organised in Barbados set the scene for the launch of the Manifesto for intermodal, low-carbon, efficient and resilient freight transport and logistics.

Co-initiated by the SLOCAT Partnership on sustainable, low-carbon transport, the Kuhne Foundation, CONCITO, IDDRI, the International Transport Workers’ Federation, Smart Freight Centre and UIC International Union of Railways, the Manifesto urges action towards prioritising systems that efficiently and resiliently combine low-carbon services from the first to the last mile and calls on governments and businesses to act on transitioning to zero emission fuels and renewable energy, optimising logistics systems, and creating local and circular value chains.

To this date, over 30 organisations – including CLECAT – signed the manifesto which include a set of critical enablers (capacity and infrastructure for zero-emission fuels, renewable energy, enabling environment for private investments, optimised logistics planning and operations, GHG emission calculation and reporting across the whole supply chain…) that needs to be implemented by governments and businesses to ensure a competitive, equitable and resilient freight transport system while reaching global climate ambitions.

More information on the manifesto including the possibility to support it is available via this page.
