ELP SUMMIT: LOGISTICS IN TIMES OF TRANSITION

The European Logistics Platform (ELP) organises its first large event under the new term of the European Parliament on the 11th of September. The event entitled ‘Logistics in Times of Transition’ will take place at the Residence Palace in Brussels.

€7 BILLION CEF FUNDING IN SUSTAINABLE, SAFE AND SMART TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE

On 17 July, the European Commission selected 134 transport projects to receive over €7 billion in EU grants from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), the EU's instrument for strategic investment in infrastructure. This represents the largest call under the current CEF Transport programme.

NEW PARLIAMENTARY TERM KICKS OFF IN STRASBOURG

On 16 July, the 10th Parliamentary Term of the European Parliament started off in Strasbourg with the re-election of Roberta Metsola (EPP, MT) as President of the Parliament. On Thursday, MEPs re-elected Ursula von der Leyen as President of the European Commission, after having been nominated by the European Council at the end of June.

The European Union's reliance on inaccurate deforestation data threatens to disrupt imports, particularly impacting commodities like coffee, cocoa, and soy, reports the Financial Times. This misstep could unfairly penalize suppliers who comply with sustainability standards, potentially leading to significant trade barriers and economic consequences.

EU AND TÜRKIYE HIGH-LEVEL DIALOGUE ON TRADE

On 8th June Executive Vice-President and Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis and Türkiye’s Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat convened in Brussels for the inaugural meeting of a High-Level Dialogue on Trade. EU and Türkiye a bilateral trade flow reached 206 billion EUR in 2023 and as a candidate country, Türkiye remains a critical trade partner for the EU.

Earlier this month, Director-General of the European Commission Gerassimos Thomas led a mission of Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union (DG TAXUD) officials to New Delhi, focusing on the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
