AIR CARGO DEMAND CONTINUES TO GROW IN APRIL

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released its latest data on global air freight markets, highlighting a robust growth in demand.

Compared to April 2023, total demand, measured in cargo tonne-kilometres (CTKs), increased by 11.1% (11.6% for international operations). This marks the fifth consecutive month of double-digit year-on-year growth. Capacity, measured in available cargo tonne-kilometres (ACTKs), increased by 7.1% compared to April 2023 (10.2% for international operations).

European carriers experienced a 12.7% year-on-year growth in air cargo demand in April, with intra-European air cargo increasing by 34.4% year-on-year. Routes between Europe and the Middle East saw demand growing by 30.1% year-on-year, with April capacity increasing 10.3% year-on-year.

Mr Willie Walsh, Director General of IATA, indicated that despite the many economic uncertainties, air cargo’s strong performance are deepening, which was also facilitated by the inflation remaining relatively stable across the US, EU and Japan.
