INFORMAL DOMESTIC ADVISORY GROUP TO DOMESTIC ADVISORY GROUP MEETING (ON EU-UK TCA)
On the 28th May CLECAT joined the informal DAG to DAG meeting under the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement held to discuss the UK DAG report. The UK Domestic Advisory Group (DAG) has compiled this report to monitor and address emerging issues related to the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA). This report reflects the priorities of business, workers, and civil society and will evolve over time as the work of the subgroups progresses.
The report also underscores the importance of ongoing dialogue and cooperation between the UK and EU to ensure smooth implementation and adaptation of the TCA. Continuous engagement with civil society, businesses, and government entities is crucial to addressing and resolving the outlined priorities and concerns. The report delved into several key areas of interest, including:
- Trade and Customs: the report will provide comprehensive customs guidance and training for border control staff, as well as considering the applicability of the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) to Northern Ireland.
- Level Playing Field and Regulatory Cooperation: Efforts will centre on modifying and simplifying Rules of Origin within EU-UK trade rules to facilitate smoother trade interactions.
- Energy and Climate Change: Key actions include implementing alternative day-ahead electricity trading arrangements, linking the UK and EU Emissions Trading Systems (ETS), and maintaining active dialogue and cooperation on energy security of supply.
