EC LAUNCHES INFRINGEMENT PROCEDURE AGAINST SLOVAKIA OVER AGRICULTURAL EXPORT NOTIFICATION RULE
The European Commission has initiated an infringement procedure
against Slovakia (INFR(2023)2118) due to the imposition of mandatory prior
notification requirements on the export of specific agricultural commodities.
Under this legislation, exporters must inform Slovak authorities in advance
about exports exceeding 400 tonnes per month. This notification system is aimed
at assessing potential threats to domestic food security by monitoring stock
levels. The Commission views this measure as incompatible with EU regulations
governing agricultural product markets and export rules. Slovakia has a
two-month window to respond to the Commission's concerns.
