AIR CARGO DEMAND CONTINUES TO GROW IN MARCH

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released its latest data on global air freight markets, highlighting a robust growth in demand.

Compared to March 2023, total demand, measured in cargo tonne-kilometres (CTKs), increased by 10.3% (11.4% for international operations). This marks the fourth consecutive month of double-digit year-on-year growth. Capacity, measured in available cargo tonne-kilometres (ACTKs), increased by 7.3% compared to March 2023 (10.5% for international operations).

European carriers experienced a 10% year-on-year growth in air cargo demand in March, with intra-European air cargo increasing by 24.7% year-on-year. Routes between Europe and the Middle East saw demand growing by 38.3% year-on-year, while those between Europe and North America grew by 2.9% year-on-year.

Mr Willie Walsh, Director General of IATA, indicated that 2024 is shaping up to be a robust year for air cargo, thanks to the moderate upward trend in global cross-border trade and industrial production.
