EC PUBLISHES STUDY INTO SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT CONNECTIONS BETWEEN THE EU AND CENTRAL ASIA
On 30 June, the European Commission published the EU Study on Sustainable Transport Connections between Europe and Central Asia as part of the implementation of the Global Gateway strategy. This study identifies a network of sustainable transport connections and investment opportunities between the EU and Central Asia.

IMO COUNTRIES FAR FROM AN AGREEMENT ON NEW CLIMATE TARGETS
Delegates of member countries of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) met this week in London to prepare for next week’s Environment Committee meeting (MEPC 80) which is expected to adopt new climate targets for the shipping industry. Progress is difficult as member countries are still divided over the ambition to reach at global level.

ITF REPORT ON DECARBONISATION AND THE PRICING OF ROAD TRANSPORT
On 23 June, the International Transport Forum published a study on the need for reforming vehicle and road use taxes due to the shift to electric vehicles (EVs) and improved fuel efficiency of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, which will reduce revenues from fuel taxes. The study suggests potential tax and charge packages that can generate revenue efficiently and maintain incentives for a sustainable transport system.

EU ADOPTS ELEVENTH PACKAGE OF SANCTIONS AGAINST RUSSIA
On 23 June, the Council of the European Union adopted an eleventh package of economic and individual restrictive measures to strengthen existing EU sanctions against Russia and prevent their circumvention. These measures are aimed at further increasing pressure on Russia and depriving it of the resources needed to sustain its aggression against Ukraine.

EU ALLOCATES €6 BILLION TO ENHANCE TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE
